Hayden Penn - S - Florida Marlins

Hayden Penn surrendered four runs in 1 2/3 innings of relief Sunday versus the Nationals.

The poor outing will hurt Penn's chances of winning a spot in Florida's rotation, but he's still in pretty good position to make the team as a middle reliever, particularly since he's out of options. Going into today, he had allowed three runs and four hits in 8 1/3 innings.

Anibal Sanchez - S - Florida Marlins

Anibal Sanchez pitched four scoreless innings, striking out three, Sunday in the Marlins' 5-1 win over the Mets.

Sanchez had a 10.38 ERA after two starts, so this is encouraging. It's doubtful he could have lost his rotation spot with a poor spring, but he needs some confidence headed into the season.

Chris Volstad - S - Florida Marlins

Chris Volstad took a big step towards securing his rotation spot by pitching five innings of one-run ball Saturday in the Marlins' 5-3 win over the Nationals.

Volstad got nine outs on the ground, which suggests he's finally gotten his sinker going after entering with a 9.82 ERA in three starts. Unless he regresses next time out, his status as the Marlins' No. 4 starter should be safe.

Cameron Maybin - OF - Florida Marlins

Cameron Maybin hit a pair of solo homers Saturday in the win over the Nationals.

We doubt Maybin will be a quality No. 2 hitter for the Marlins, but he could be a terrific fantasy outfielder while hitting in between Chris Coghlan and Hanley Ramirez. He's definitely a mided-league sleeper.

Gaby Sanchez - 1B - Florida Marlins

Gaby Sanchez went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer Saturday against the Nationals.

It was his first homer of the spring, but he's now hitting .387. The Marlins picked Emilio Bonifacio over Sanchez last year. This year, it looks like they're leaning towards Sanchez over the more talented Logan Morrison. It's justifiable, but there were inexpensive and superior options available a couple of months ago.

Logan Morrison - 1B - Florida Marlins

Logan Morrison went 2-for-4 with a two-run double off Chris Carpenter to help the Marlins top the Cardinals 7-6 on Friday.

We'll see if it's too little, too late, but Morrison has gone 6-for-16 with three doubles since opening the spring 1-for-19. Gaby Sanchez has overtaken him as the favorite to open the season at first base for the Marlins.

Cristhian Martinez - R - Florida Marlins

Marlins optioned RHP Cristhian Martinez to Triple-A New Orleans.

Martinez, 26, allowed seven hits and three earned runs in 5 1/3 innings of relief this spring in Marlins camp. He could be recalled rather quickly if there's an injury in the Florida bullpen. The Marlins also optioned LHP Taylor Tankersley, OF Scott Cousins and OF Jai Miller to NOLA.
