Antti Niemi - G - San Jose Sharks

Antti Niemi hopes to get the start on Friday as he will face his former Chicago teammates.

Niemi was the goalie for Chicago when they won the 2010 Stanley Cup, but the Blackhawks were forced to let him go when they couldn't afford to pay him what he was worth. "You have a lot of energy, for sure, when you play a former team," Niemi said. "You want to beat those guys. You try to draw on the emotion of playing against the top teams or the top goalie." Coach Todd McLellan only said 'we'll see' when asked if Niemi will start. Stay tuned.

Jason Demers - D - San Jose Sharks

Jason Demers (lower body) is still not skating.

Demers suffered the injury in late January. He has two goals and 11 points in 35 games this season. Keep him reserved for now.

Martin Havlat - W - San Jose Sharks

Martin Havlat is still not skating after undergoing surgery on December 22 to repair a partially torn hamstring.

Havlat has only played 26 games for the Sharks this season garnering two goals and 15 points. The lack of progress may force the Sharks to look elsewhere for scoring before the February 27 trade deadline.

Jeremy Roenick - C - San Jose Sharks

Jeremy Roenick is now involved with a group that wants to buy the Coyotes and keep them in Phoenix.

Roenick is revered in Phoenix and will be inducted to their Ring of Honor on Saturday so this announcement could not have come at a better time. Roenick said he was approached weeks ago by ex-San Jose Sharks CEO Greg Jamison and has spoken to some of his business associates in the interim. Should the group be successful and keep the team in Phoenix, Roenick's status in the desert will be even higher.

Dan Boyle - D - San Jose Sharks

Dan Boyle was absent from practice on Thursday after missing Wednesday's game with the flu.

"Boiler had the flu yesterday, so we let him stay home," coach Todd McLellan said. "We don't want him around the rest of the guys, just in case the bug is still with him. I would say right now that he's questionable (against the Blackhawks), and we'll see how he is tomorrow." The San Jose rearguard is enjoying a solid season with 29 points and a plus-13 rating in 50 games.
