Dirk's historic performance keys Game 1 win
Dirk Nowitzki - F - Dallas Mavericks
May 18, 2011 - 1:05 AM ET

Dirk Nowitzki had a night for the NBA history books in the Mavs' Game 1 win, hitting an astounding 12-of-15 shots from the field (with an NBA playoff record 24 free throws made without a miss) for 48 points to go with six rebounds, four assists, and four blocks.

After his mental breakdown against Golden State in 2007, his slow ascent toward playoff respectability has now turned into full-blown supernova status, and if you're not on board you better get a ticket. Tonight he drew 16 fouls on a Thunder squad that had no answers, and despite Dirk's video-game like accuracy Scott Brooks erroneously refused to double-team him. This will go down as perhaps the most efficient scoring game in NBA history, and the Thunder may want to look at some game-tape from 2007.
