Chris Volstad took a big step towards securing his rotation spot by pitching five innings of one-run ball Saturday in the Marlins' 5-3 win over the Nationals.
Volstad got nine outs on the ground, which suggests he's finally gotten his sinker going after entering with a 9.82 ERA in three starts. Unless he regresses next time out, his status as the Marlins' No. 4 starter should be safe.
